Thousands of Newcastle United fans decided to boycott the home game against Tottenham yesterday in protest to the way the club is run by Mike Ashley. Although it is difficult to determine exactly how many people opted to leave their seat empty (the official NUFC attendance figure allegedly included season tickets whether or not they were actually present), there was a noticeable absence in many parts of the ground – but many have argued that not enough took part.
Here we take a look at reactions towards the boycott before, during and after the match – in which Newcastle lost 3-1…
The intention of the boycott was clear for all to see…

For some fans, the boycott has been all season long and will continue until change takes place at the heart of NUFC…

The decision to keep away from St James’ park was understandably a difficult one for most supporters, many of which have never missed a game in a long time…

Inside the ground, there was a noticeable absence from the fans who stayed away…

But Ashley himself also decided to give this game a miss…

Although the NUFC official attendance (which included all season ticket holders) seemed to suggest the boycott wasn’t a success, the real figures were soon leaked…

Which was a pleasing result for many fans…

But the question remains – Boycott Spurs, will it make a difference?
