Residents of Newcastle and the surrounding area are blessed with having so many great restaurants on their doorstop. There truly is something for everyone and in a city so accessible by foot, many of these restaurants are a stones throw away from some of the best bars in the area.
For those who enjoy eating out, there is surely no better time of the year than Newcastle Restaurant Week. This year there are 80 restaurants taking part, offering great deals (usually 2 courses for £10 or 3 courses for £15) – which gives people the perfect opportunity to try out some new places to eat.
The idea was originally developed from a similar scheme in New York, which helped many restaurants get extra business shortly after Christmas, at a time when it is usually very quiet.
It’s been 5 years since the idea was pioneered in Newcastle and it has grown from strength to strength each year – so much so that a second restaurant week takes place in the month of August, which is another quiet time for restaurant owners.
It seems like a win win situation – restaurant operators are happy with increasing the amount of covers in what would normally be a very quiet period and the customers are happy because they get great deals in a large number of restaurants at a time when many are feeling the pinch after an expensive festive period.
As all the offers are at a fixed price of either £10 or £15, it takes the financial side out of the customer’s decision – which is great as it means they can concentrate entirely on the food on offer.
The scheme is organised by Newcastle NE1 and the first restaurant week of 2015 is on from Monday 19th January until Sunday 25th.
In order to take advantage of the offer, customers must visit the Newcastle Ne1 website, where they will find details of all the restaurants taking part and what offers they have. Once they find the deal they would like to take advantage of they will be able to print off a voucher after they have completed a simple registration process.
Customers then need to call the restaurant to book a table and must mention that they intend to use their restaurant week voucher.
