The Sherlocks in Newcastle

Indie/alternative band, The Sherlocks, will be performing in June here in Newcastle together with a host of other talented bands.
The four piece band from Sheffield, which consists of two sets of brothers, will be at The Globe on 5th June as part of their UK tour, before appearing at the likes of the Reading and Leeds festivals towards the end of the summer.

Joining them at The Globe will be three great bands hailing from Newcastle Upon Tyne; The Champagne Charlies, The Face and Montclare. The event will be hosted in one of the regions only truly independent music venues, who are proud to showcase a huge variety of alternative & underground music and arts events.

Promoter and fellow musician, Seamus Edge, has organised the event – which will be the first of many for his new company, Front Step Music.

I’m a firm believer grass-roots development, so each time I do gig I’ll be looking to designate a slot to a band from Newcastle College, in order help give them more exposure and experience.

Montclare, a 3-piece band with blues, rock and alternative roots, will be the first band to benefit from Seamus’ idea to help up and coming local bands.
Seamus Edge aims to bring 10 years of experience of being in a band to his new label and promotions company,

I’ve been in and around band’s close to 10 years, I’ve done events in between and even managed a few as well.
I know what it’s like, it’s the best and most enjoyable hard work I have ever done in my life and I love it! I want to work with bands who share the same mind set, who share the same traits, work ethics and value music and themselves like I do…. not just for me, for themselves as well.

Front Step Music hopes to secure a regular spot at The Globe called ‘Amplified Live‘ and will be working closely with the Newcastle College record label, continuing to support student bands by giving them opportunities to perform at events.
Seamus hopes to sign his first artist over the next year and build a roster for 2016,

The plan I have for this to happen is in the early stages of development and should be a cracker it’s a competition called ‘Signed 2015’. The Winner will indeed be signed and release a single, a video and go on tour.

The Champagne Charlies are a local band who describe their style of music as indie scruff rock. This exciting 3 piece band has been influenced by music from a range of different genres. The Strokes, Elvis Costello, Jimi Hendrix, Radiohead, Notorious B.I.G, 2pac and Stevie Wonder are just a few of the artists that have been influential to this band.

The Face

The Face are another Newcastle-based band who state that their music is not so different to 60’s Psych/Indie. They take influence from a wide range of bands, from The Small Faces to Kasabian and everything in between, forming their own unique sound in the process. Lyrically, the songs move far beyond “sex, drugs and rock & roll” cliché; each one is imbued with a hard-earned wisdom straight from the mind of one of North East’s brightest song-writing talents.

Montclare

Montclare are an exciting band from Newcastle College and will be the first of the college bands to perform at one of the Front Step Music events. This 3-piece rock band from Newcastle has been influenced by genres ranging for metal to blues, creating an original style of music that is sure to take them a long way.
