World Cup Winner Could Well Be Newcastle's Next Signing

With Tim Krul out for the season, Newcastle are on the hunt for a replacement goal-keeper with enough quality to ensure they avoid another relegation battle. Krul was injured during an international fixture for the Netherlands, although his Premier League form this campaign has been questionable. He conceded 6 goals in his last appearance for the Toon against Manchester City, 5 of which were scored in the space of 20minutes by Sergio Aguero.

Newcastle went on to win their first game without Krul in an impressive 6-2 victory over Norwich, but their defence was still very poor. Rob Elliot was in goal again against Sunderland last Sunday and conceded another 3 goals, albeit under unfair circumstances after Coloccini was wrongly dismissed at the end of the first half.
The team now has the joint-worst defensive record in the Premier League, having conceded a total of 22 goals in 10 games.

Of course, it is not just the responsibility of the goal-keeper to try and keep a clean sheet – but Newcastle will be very concerned about their limited options in this position.
However, there could be light at the end of the tunnel – in January at least.
Manchester United’s Victor Valdes has indicated he wants to remain in the Premier League after he leaves the Red Devils and has also signalled that he wishes to leave during the January transfer window. He probably would already have a new club if David De Gea had committed to Manchester United earlier. Van Gaal was reluctant to part with Valdes whilst the possibility of De Gea moving to Real Madrid was on the cards – but De Gea eventually extended his contract, putting Valdes as their 3rd choice keeper behind Sergio Romero.

He would certainly bring some much needed experience to Newcastle’s defence. Valdes has won the World Cup and the European Cup with Spain together with 3 Champion’s League titles and a whole host of domestic trophies with Barcelona.
According to the Mirror, Newcastle fans would love Valdes to join. The poll below was posted at the bottom of their recent article about the prospect of the Spaniard heading to Tyneside
