Ponteland Golf Club

Established in 1927, Ponteland Golf Club radiates charm and history, and it’s not just for show. Boasting an 18-hole parkland course that stretches 6,627 yards from the Members’ tees, it presents a fair yet memorable challenge for players of all skill levels.

The course itself is a visual masterpiece, with beautiful fairways, exceptional greens, and a landscape that remains open year-round, even when other courses in the area succumb to the region’s unpredictable weather. Situated just a couple of miles from Newcastle airport and outside the village of Ponteland, this golf haven is both accessible and picturesque.

Originally designed as a 9-hole course, Ponteland Golf Club expanded in 1931 when additional land became available. Harry Fernie, son of the 1883 Open champion Willie Fernie, was entrusted with the task of crafting an 18-hole course that would become the pride of the region. The result is a course that effortlessly meanders across a hundred acres of gently undulating terrain, providing a rich and varied experience for players. Notable holes include the string of short par fours from the 3rd to the 5th, the 460-meter 8th (the longest on the front nine), and the 131-meter 15th, which stands out as the only short hole after the turn.

Players rave about the course’s immaculate greens and fabulous views, with one visitor describing it as “a great challenge, well recommended.” So, whether you’re a seasoned pro or just starting out, the Ponteland Golf Club is a must-visit destination for any golf enthusiast seeking both beauty and challenge on the greens.

But the golf course is just one aspect of what makes this club so special. The clubhouse provides a warm and welcoming atmosphere, offering the perfect place to unwind and engage in post-round discussions. With multiple screens, it’s also an ideal venue for watching your favourite sports.

For the foodies out there, the club’s dining options are sure to satisfy. Alongside a delicious bar menu, the special’s board features a rotating selection of starters, main meals, and desserts, with popular options such as steak pie and wholetail Whitby Scampi. On Friday and Saturday evenings in the winter, and Saturday evenings in the summer (when the function room is available), the club serves up an exclusive á la carte menu, while Sundays see the addition of traditional roast dinners and other dishes.

Ponteland Golf Club’s restaurant is the perfect setting for enjoying a meal, whether you’re part of a small group or hosting an event for up to 80 guests. Beside the restaurant, you’ll find a cosy lounge and cocktail bar, providing extra spots for leisurely relaxation and mingling pre and post dining experiences.

The restaurant is available for casual meals throughout the day and can also be reserved for private functions, such as anniversaries, weddings, and birthdays.
